Hi there! Welcome to the blog. It's the history of our time with couples and families during the days that they will one day treasure as the days that mattered most..

Hi, I'm REBECCA.

Ali & Derek | Birmingham Engagement Session

June 6, 2012

Filed in: Engagements

Well, Ali and Derek were supposed to be on the blog last week, but we’ve had quite a few changes around here lately! For starters, I let Samford know that I would not be renewing my contract to come back and photograph for them again this year. It was a tough decision but I know it will be for the best. SO! The big news that this translates into is: I’m totally a full-time wedding, portrait, and event photographer. I have had lots of hopes for what the business will turn into, so now I’ll have some time to make those things happen. More to come on this post later : )
Secondly, we signed a contract on a house last week! WHAT?! Yeah, that’s right. We weren’t heavily looking to move (it’s about 10 minutes from where we are now, just lots more space!) but the right thing came up at just the right time. Much more on this later as well!
NOW… On to the good stuff… this adorable couple! I met with Ali and her mom several weeks back about photography for her wedding. It was quickly evident that Ali is an easy going girl yet she knows just what she wants. I’m definitely looking forward to their wedding this fall and with the way summer has flown by already – it’ll be here in no time.
Ali and Derek have been long distance for most of their relationship, which makes me even more excited for them and their upcoming marriage! I know it’s going to be fabulous to be in the same place at the same time : ) Ali is from Georgia and Derek is from Texas and they happened to meet in the middle at the University of Alabama during college. It was obvious during our session that these two are 1. lovely and photogenic, 2. so in love and ready to be married! I’m always a big fan of that combination.
Interesting fact #1 Derek wins the “Farthest Traveled” award for an engagement session. He had JUST flown into Birmingham from Texas mere hours before the session. Not only that, he had JUST gotten off of work in TX before getting on the plane. Wow. Derek, you’re the best!!
Interesting fact #2 Ali wanted to have some of their engagement session near the Alabama Theater downtown because her grandfather was one of the artists for the inside!! I love that place!
^I love cute laughs^ A perfect sunset for our engagement photosThanks for trekking around the gardens and downtown Birmingham with us you two! Big thanks to Derek who managed to still be awake by the end of our time together : )

great work! my two faves? the b/w of the two in an embrace with her looking over his left shoulder and the funky wide angle shot from above. a lot of great captures throughout, though.
